Claremont entered the Kahunaverse Sports BC Volleyball Championships this week as the AAA’s third seed, and the Vancouver Island team left on Saturday with the third-place trophy.
The Spartans and 6-9 all-star Ethan Boag swept past Moscrop 25-15, 25-22, 25-22 in the bronze-medal match, avenging a loss in pool play.
Claremont kept the ball in play and forced Moscrop into numerous errors.
“The kids had a lot of energy,” said coach Shon Ryan, whose team had lost three straight to top seed Earl Marriott the night before. “We had better passing than against EMS and we served a lot stronger than last night, too.
The Spartans also won AAA’s trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Team.
* OAK BAY WINS SEASON “SERIES”:

Oak Bay finished a roller coaster Provincials by beating Argyle in three sets (15-5) to take seventh place in AAA.
The Barbers won two of three matches agains Argyle this season.
They won 2-0 at Argyle’s tournament, lost 3-1 at their own tournament, then won Saturday at the BCs.
“We got the rubber match,” Oak Bay coach Al Carmichael said.
He thought the team played well this week at times in Langley but said its best play came in the Islands zone tournament and the Greater Victoria playoffs.
Setter Diego Maffia was a second-team all-Star at the BCs.
* MOUNT BAKER GRABS FIFTH:
Last year’s silver medalist, Mount Baker gained its second three-set victory this week against Mount Boucherie and placed fifth. The Wild won 17-15 in the third.
Penticton did likewise in the 9-10 match, beating Elgin Park in three (15-9) after winning a three-setter against the Surrey school in pool play.
Dover Bay defeated Kelowna for 13th, Fleetwood beat Seaquam for 17th and Reynolds got past Riverside for 19th.
