Langley — Kelowna, AAA’s No. 1 team all fall, kept its top seed in the Big Kahuna BC Volleyball Championships on Wednesday by sweeping its three Pool E matches.
The Owls beat Semiahmoo in three sets (15-9) and defeated both Walnut Grove and Van Tech in two.
“Our passing and defence got better through the day,” Owls coach Mike Sodaro said. “There was less fluctuation; we were more consistent. I’m feeling more confident when the passing is on.”
KSS hadn’t faced Semi or Walnut Grove during the season, but scored its third win over Tech in as many meetings.
Sodaro said setter Grayson McMillan “had a good day. He was mixing up his setting a little bit, nicely, and that improved through the day.”

The Owls got 6-4 Spencer Doody more balls in the last match, a commanding 25-5, 25-15 victory, and he made the most of them.
Libero Jase Goerzen also played well in the Tech match and 6-3 captain Justin Peleshytyk again showed his versatility.
“He’s our leader,” Sodaro said. “He led us in passing and showed he can put the ball away, too.”
In Pool H of AAA, Delta went 3-0 and earned a spot in the round of 16.
Killarney (1-2) got second in the pool by winning its last match over Claremont in two straight after losing two tough 3-setters.
“I told them to lighten the load, that they were good at almost winning,” Cougars coach Jeremy Westereng said with a smile. “And if the match is over in two sets, we’ll win.”
Setter Jackson Kuan helped make it happen with a strong match, and Westereng said Justin Mo contributed some good line shots for winners.
In a AA late match, Pacific Academy beat top seed Langley Christian in Pool A 25-22, 29-27. PA finished first in the pool. Followed by LCS, MEI and Fundamental.
